Our Take
SS
For $399, the HMD Skyline throws a few interesting punches, most notably its embrace of Qi2 charging, finally bringing that MagSafe-esque magnetic alignment to the Android world. This is a genuine convenience, especially if you're tired of fumbling with cables. Beyond that, HMD is leaning into repairability – a welcome change in an era of sealed-up devices. The specs are solid for the price, with a capable Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and a smooth 120Hz OLED display, delivering enough grunt for most daily tasks and even some lighter gaming. It’s a phone that feels built to last, both in terms of its build and its potential for user upgrades.
Now, let's be clear: this isn't a flagship killer. Performance is described as "sufficient" for smooth operation, not blistering speed. The camera, while present, isn't the star here. But HMD has smartly positioned the Skyline as a pragmatic choice. If you value convenience, the longevity offered by user-serviceable parts, and a brand that’s channeling some of that old Nokia spirit of sturdy reliability, then the $399 HMD Skyline is a compelling option. It’s a phone for those who make their devices work for them, not the other way around.
