Our Take
SS
Let's cut to the chase: the OnePlus Nord 5 at $449 is a shrewd play for those who demand more without mortgaging their future. While the shift away from a metal frame might raise an eyebrow, OnePlus has clearly prioritized what truly matters for the everyday user. The standout 144Hz AMOLED display is an absolute joy, making everything from scrolling through social feeds to intense gaming feel remarkably fluid – a true premium experience bleeding down into the mid-range. And that selfie camera? It's genuinely class-leading, a delightful surprise that elevates your video calls and self-portraits to an unexpected level. Don't let the spec sheet nuances distract you; this phone *feels* more expensive than it is, and that's a testament to smart design and focused execution.
Now, is it a flawless ascension? Not entirely. Some reviewers have noted a few compromises compared to its predecessor, a common balancing act in this price bracket. However, the core experience – the vibrant display, the capable performance driven by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, and that exceptional front-facing camera – remain the defining factors. For the buyer looking for a device that punches above its weight, offering a refined user experience and genuinely impressive camera hardware where it counts, the Nord 5 makes a compelling case. It’s not about chasing every single spec; it's about delivering a polished, enjoyable experience that justifies the investment. If those elements resonate with you, the Nord 5 is a smart choice that won't leave you wanting.

“A keenly priced all-rounder that takes great photos and isn't short on power or battery – but the OnePlus Nord 5 isn't the design standout its predecessor was, and rivals have it beat in a few areas.”
